Gotta Love Logan was honored to be invited as special guests to the launch of Logan Then and Now, an inspiring new children’s book by local author Karen Tyrrell and illustrator Megan Forward. Commissioned by Quota, this beautifully crafted story is designed to ignite a love of reading among young children while showcasing the unique history and charm of Logan City.
The book introduces Sweetie, a playful Sugar Glider, alongside two local children, Martha and Jacob, who are eager to embark on an adventure through Logan. As they explore, readers are taken on a captivating journey that contrasts Logan’s rich past with its dynamic present. What makes this book especially unique is the format: each page spread features the left side telling a historical story of a location, while the right side showcases the present day of the same place. It’s a delightful “then and now” experience for young readers!
Logan Then and Now isn’t just a story – it’s a guide! The book serves as a trial guide for children and families to discover and enjoy the hidden gems of Logan City. From trekking through wetlands and parklands to speaking with community elders and visiting the Yugambeh Museum, Karen Tyrrell and her team went above and beyond to ensure that the book accurately reflects Logan’s history and culture. The research process was a labor of love, with historical photos, interviews, and fact-checking at every step to bring Logan’s past to life in a way that resonates with children.
As part of this incredible initiative, 1,300 books will be provided to Year 2 students across selected schools in Logan, encouraging a new generation of readers and explorers to connect with their city.
The launch event was a wonderful celebration of the creative talent within Logan and a reminder of the importance of storytelling in preserving our local history.
